SAW 2 Flesh & Blood takes place in between the first and second SAW movies. It features Michael, the son of Detective Tapp, as the new protagonist as he searches for clues behind his father's death. In doing so, Michael becomes a target of Jigsaw (once again voiced by Tobin Bell) and Pighead.

The traps and puzzles which are the main ingredients in the SAW franchise are well represented in this game. Some puzzles are easy but others will have you scratching your head for quite some time. The death scenes are as brutal as you would expect, with my personal favorite being Carla’s elevator death.

You did not have much freedom when it comes to combat. The system is based on timed events for both offensive and defensive techniques. So, if you know you have to battle someone you can’t just run up to them and blast them in the head with a spiked bat. This can prove to be frustrating at times especially in situations where you have to dodge often. An enemy can have his back to you but you can’t hit him unless the timed event prompt is on the screen. This is why I believe the combat system (and possibly movement in the game – it just seems almost like the original Resident Evil when it comes to movement) needs to be re-worked in future SAW games (if there are any) for this game to be more interesting to gamers.

Although you do not fight Pighead, I LOVED the Michael ending of the game. Michael will get into the elevator and a tape will play, claiming that he and Jigsaw are similar and would both like to give justice to a world of criminals. Michael then faces two doors; one leads Michael to freedom and the chance to use the evidence found by his father to print the story of Jigsaw and the drug cartel. The other door reveals a Pighead costume and an offer to help people see the truth inside themselves, implying Michael can become another Jigsaw apprentice. The choice made is not revealed to the player. (This made me wish I could play the next edition right now, IF the combat and movement in the game were to be fixed.)

I know a lot of gamers roll their eyes when the SAW games are mentioned, but with some tweaks, it can be quite fun!
